The Cuban Petroleum Union (CUPET) has issued an official warning on their Facebook page this past Saturday, alerting the public about a fraudulent website operating under the name "GasCuba." This website falsely claims to sell liquefied gas with CUPET's endorsement.

"This site is a scam," CUPET declared. The organization clarified that the company in question was dissolved years ago and replaced by a new entity.

According to CUPET, "GasCuba was once a company under CUPET, but it no longer exists. It was dissolved and replaced by the company Gaslor." They emphasized, "CUPET is not affiliated with any websites or pages currently using the GasCuba name."

The fraudulent site appears under the name "GasCuba · National Distribution · Cuba" and advertises three sizes of gas cylinders: a small one for $30 USD, a medium 20 kg for $55 USD, and a large 40 kg for $110 USD.

Orders are processed via WhatsApp, with the instruction: "Choose your cylinder, select the quantity, and contact us directly through WhatsApp to complete your order."

The scammers accept payments in MLC, Zelle, and PayPal, including delivery, making it difficult to recover funds once a transfer is completed.

CUPET urged citizens to remain vigilant: "We reiterate that this is a scam and warn the public not to be misled by publications or sites impersonating CUPET or defunct companies."

The company Gaslor, officially named Empresa Gas Licuado Oriente, was established in Santiago de Cuba on October 1, 2025, as part of a sector reorganization. It officially took over the distribution of liquefied gas to the public on February 1, 2026.

However, the shortage issue wasn't immediately resolved, and the recurring question on social media remained, "When will gas be available for the public?"

This warning is not isolated. In March 2026, FINCIMEX also alerted the public about a scam using its name to offer home-delivered gasoline at three dollars per liter, following a similar pattern: sites mimicking state entities, orders via WhatsApp, and payments in foreign currencies that are challenging to reverse.
