José Daniel Ferrer, the leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), took to social media on Friday to declare that the collapse of the Cuban dictatorship is imminent, challenging skeptics who doubt the downfall of the Castro-communist regime.

In a message posted at 5:51 a.m., Ferrer remarked, "For many years, people spoke about the need to end the criminal Castro-communist tyranny, yet did little to make it happen."

Continuing his message, Ferrer stated, "After so many years without anything truly significant occurring, now that change is underway and the end of tyranny is just around the corner, some still doubt and think nothing will change, believing Cuba will remain enslaved. Well, they are wrong, and they will soon see it!"

His statement comes during a week of unprecedented pressure from Washington against Havana. On Wednesday, the Department of Justice declassified a formal charge against Raúl Castro for the downing of two Brothers to the Rescue planes on February 24, 1996, resulting in the deaths of four Cuban-Americans. On Thursday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested the sister of the head of GAESA, the military conglomerate that controls between 40% and 70% of Cuba's economy, in Miami.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that "there will be no place on this Earth" for those who threaten the national security of the United States.

Ferrer, who was forced into exile in October 2025 after a hunger strike in Mar Verde prison in Santiago de Cuba, has continued his activism against the Cuban regime. On Monday, he responded to Díaz-Canel—who had warned of a "bloodbath" in the event of possible U.S. military action—with a turnaround of the metaphor: "It will be the excrement bath for those in the tyranny."

He also warned that if the regime is not dismantled, "its allies will help it arm to the teeth" and it will become an even greater threat to the U.S.

On May 15, Ferrer asserted that Washington has "all the moral, legal, military, economic, and political power" to end the regime.

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Independiente from Warsaw on May 11, he confidently stated that the Cuban regime "will not survive this year" and anticipates a resolution before the U.S. midterm elections.

Ferrer is currently on a European tour that began on May 2 in Madrid, promoting the "Cuba Liberation Agreement," which was signed on March 2 in Miami by more than 30 Cuban exile organizations.

Rubio's deadline for foreign companies to sever ties with GAESA is set for June 5, a date Ferrer has highlighted as part of the encirclement that he believes will seal the fate of the dictatorship.
