The Catalan police, known as Mossos d'Esquadra, apprehended Jonathan Andic, the eldest son of Mango's founder, on Tuesday. He is under investigation for the death of his father, Isak Andic, and was taken to the Martorell courthouse in Barcelona to appear before the judge handling the case.
Isak Andic tragically passed away on December 14, 2024, after falling from a height of about 150 meters during a hike at the Salnitre Caves in Collbató, located in the Montserrat massif. Jonathan was the sole person present with his father at the time of the incident and alerted emergency services.
Details of the Arrest
The arrest took place at Jonathan Andic's residence in Barcelona, carried out by agents from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Egara police station, following over a year of secretive investigations.
Shortly before 1 p.m., Jonathan arrived in handcuffs at the Martorell courthouse, escorted by three uniformed officers and two investigators, to appear before the judge of Investigating Court Number Five.
His legal representative, Cristóbal Martell, was present at the courthouse, alongside the case prosecutor and Mossos investigators, who brought a box filled with documents related to the case.
The Reopening of the Case
Initially deemed an accident, the case was temporarily closed by the judge in January 2025. However, it was reopened two months later to include additional police reports, including statements from family members and associates of both the victim and the suspect.
After the case was reopened, the Mossos focused their investigation on Jonathan Andic. In September 2025, they requested access to his mobile phone for analysis, and the Catalan police worked on retrieving deleted messages, seeking clues about the circumstances of the death.
Investigators also explored a request Jonathan reportedly made to Mango for a new corporate phone in January 2025, a few weeks after his father's death, which was activated on March 26 of that year.
From Witness to Suspect
By October 2025, the investigation openly considered the possibility of homicide, shifting Jonathan Andic's status from witness to suspect.
Isak Andic, born in Istanbul in 1953 to a Sephardic Jewish family, moved to Catalonia at the age of 14 and founded Mango in 1984, opening the first store on Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona. At the time of his death, the company had over 2,800 locations in more than 120 markets and generated revenue exceeding 3.3 billion euros. His personal fortune was estimated at 4.5 billion euros.
Following his father's passing, Jonathan Andic took over as president of Mango MNG Holding and Punta Na Holding in January 2025, the entities holding the majority ownership of the group. Isak Andic's estate was formalized in July 2025, equally divided among his three children.
