On Wednesday, the City of Hialeah unveiled the "Palm Centre Business Opportunity Program," a new initiative designed to provide rent-free commercial spaces for at least one year to entrepreneurs and small businesses that meet certain criteria.

The available spaces are located in the Palm Centre commercial area, situated at Palm Avenue and 3rd Street, a district the city aims to rejuvenate by attracting new business ventures.

Mayor Bryan Calvo announced the program personally on his Instagram account, extending an invitation to those who have long considered starting a business.

"If you've been harboring a business idea or have dreamed of opening your own shop, this could be your chance. Selected businesses may receive a year of free rent as part of this initiative," Calvo shared.

The mayor outlined the types of businesses the program targets: cafes, pilates or yoga studios, gyms, and restaurants, among other fresh and appealing ventures for the local community.

"We're eager to bring new and diverse businesses to Hialeah, breathing life into our commercial spaces," Calvo added in the same post.

Interested businesses are encouraged to review the requirements and submit an application with supporting materials through Hialeah's official city website.

Mayor Calvo, the youngest mayor in the history of both Hialeah and the state of Florida, took office in January 2026 after winning the special election on November 4, 2025, with over 52% of the vote.

Since assuming office, Calvo has pursued an economic revitalization agenda that includes stimulus checks for property owners over 65 and the establishment of the CUBAT advisory group to audit contracts and licenses of firms with potential links to the Cuban regime.

This free retail space program is part of that broader agenda and addresses one of the significant challenges facing new entrepreneurs: the initial cost of commercial rent.

Known as the "City of the Sun," Hialeah is a hub of Cuban and Latin American entrepreneurship in South Florida, home to thousands of small businesses founded by immigrants who have thrived from the ground up.

The initiative does not specify a deadline for applications, so those interested should visit the city's official website for the most current requirements and selection process timelines.
