A Cuban resident of Miami, who had previously faced charges for smashing slot machines in Hialeah, was apprehended again on Monday for committing the same crime. This time, he used a metal rod to vandalize a gaming machine inside a market, making off with approximately $2,000 in cash.
Alejandro Izaguirre, age 50, and a resident of Miami's West Little River neighborhood, is now facing charges of third-degree grand theft and property damage exceeding $1,000, according to authorities.
The incident took place on May 2 at the Bora Bora Market, located at 3296 Palm Ave., as reported by Local 10 News and NBC Miami.
Police reports indicate that Izaguirre entered the market around 1:30 p.m. to play on the slot machine. He later exited, retrieved a metal object from his car trunk, and re-entered the establishment carrying the rod.
Using the rod, he smashed the slot machine, causing over $1,000 in damage, extracted the cash, and fled in his vehicle before law enforcement arrived at approximately 3:15 p.m.
An employee of the Bora Bora Market reviewed surveillance footage and provided a description of the suspect to officers. The victim mentioned that the individual had previously visited the establishment and was possibly named Alejandro.
On reviewing the video footage this Monday, an officer recognized the suspect as the same individual he had arrested on September 18, 2025, for a similar offense in Hialeah.
Investigators proceeded to Izaguirre's residence to detain him. During the arrest, when his girlfriend inquired about the reason for his detention, he spontaneously admitted it was due to the slot machines, according to the police report.
Izaguirre is currently facing charges of third-degree grand theft and criminal mischief exceeding $1,000 in damages. His bail has been set at $5,000.
Nevertheless, he remains in custody at Miami-Dade's Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center under an immigration hold imposed by immigration authorities.
In December 2025, another Cuban national was arrested in Hialeah for wrecking at least four slot machines at RC La Atenas Market & Smoke Shop after losing $3,800 on them.
