In the early hours of Saturday, a fire at an apartment complex located in the 5900 block of Northwest 16th Place, Sunrise, Florida, rendered two families homeless, as reported by Sunrise Fire Rescue to Telemundo 51.

The incident unfolded when a smoke odor was detected in one of the building's units, situated near Northwest 60th Avenue and 18th Place, a residential area in Broward County.

Upon arrival, teams from Sunrise Fire Rescue and Lauderhill Fire Rescue encountered intense flames emanating from several windows on the second floor, prompting a joint response from both departments.

Firefighters launched a vigorous attack on the blaze, successfully preventing it from spreading to the attic and other apartments on the second level, which could have significantly worsened the situation.

All building occupants managed to evacuate the premises on their own before emergency crews arrived, a critical factor in avoiding casualties, according to authorities.

Officials confirmed there were no injuries among the residents or the emergency personnel who responded to the scene.

As a result of the blaze, two families were displaced and left without access to their homes. Authorities are collaborating with the American Red Cross to provide additional aid to those affected, including temporary shelter, food, medicines, clothing, and transportation, as well as long-term recovery programs with financial assistance and grants for home repairs.

The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office will assist in investigating the fire's origins, as stated by Sunrise Fire Rescue. This state agency coordinates with local fire departments when an official investigation into a fire's cause is necessary.
