"I don't need a textbook to understand the dangers of socialism—I lived through it," stated Giménez, who is uniquely the only member of Congress born in Cuba.
He continued, "As a Cuban American, I know precisely where the path of radicalism leads. It doesn't lead to progress; it leads to struggle."
His comments were a reaction to a Fox News poll indicating that 53% of voters under 30 see a shift away from capitalism towards socialism as favorable.
The same survey showed overall support for socialism among all voters reached a record 38%, up from 32% in 2022 and 18% in 2010.
Giménez, who migrated from Cuba at the age of six following the 1959 Castro revolution, was emphatic: "The only people who truly favor communism and socialism are those who have never lived under such a regime."
He supported his stance by referencing conversations with ambassadors from the former Soviet bloc in Eastern Europe, describing them as "staunchly anti-communist" due to their firsthand experiences of the system.
The congressman summarized the promise of communism succinctly: "The only promise of communism is that everyone will be equal. Yes, everyone is equally miserable."
He added that under such a regime, "quality of life is destroyed, there's oppression, suppression of free speech, and political prisoners. Anyone wanting to live under that system has never lived under it."
Representing Florida's 28th district, Giménez has been a vocal critic of socialism since securing his congressional seat in 2020. At that time, he declared that "the principles of socialism and communism are rejected in this community."
Recently, he has intensified his activism against the Cuban regime. In February, he denounced the Havana dictatorship as a "pathetic regime that must be completely eradicated" and consigned to the dustbin of history.
In March, he predicted the imminent downfall of Díaz-Canel's regime, attributing Cuba's economic crisis to "the regime's mismanagement and socialism." In April, he asserted that Cuba should befriend the United States after visiting the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base for the first time in 64 years.
Despite the record support for socialism among young people, the Fox News poll also indicated that 61% of all voters still view socialism negatively, including majorities among Republicans (78%), conservatives (75%), and those over 65 years of age (75%).
"We cannot allow these failed ideologies to take root in our country," concluded Giménez, whose stance aligns with the Trump administration's maximum pressure policies against Havana, which include economic sanctions and an oil embargo.
