Trump Appears at 'Cadillac Championship' Golf Tournament Held at His Doral Resort

Monday, May 4, 2026 by Robert Castillo

Former President Donald Trump made an appearance yesterday at the final round of the Cadillac Championship at his Trump National Doral resort in Miami. This marks the first PGA Tour event on one of his properties since 2016.

The event was captured by Golf Channel cameras, showing Trump in a spectator suite alongside his son, Eric Trump, and his foreign affairs envoy, Steve Witkoff.

CBS commentator Trevor Immelman noted that Trump had dined with the players on Saturday night. According to an AOL report, when golfer Cameron Young sank his final putt to clinch the tournament, Trump stood, applauded, pointed at the champion, and gave a thumbs-up.

Young won by six strokes over world number one Scottie Scheffler, finishing with a total of -19, and took home $3.6 million from a total purse of $20 million.

Margo Martin, a special assistant to the president, posted a video on X showing Trump pumping his fist and greeting a crowd chanting "USA."

PGA Tour's Historical Return to Doral

The PGA Tour's return to Doral carries historical significance. The tour left the venue in 2016 after Trump's controversial remarks on immigration and his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the United States, positions that the tour deemed incompatible with its commitment to inclusion.

During the PGA Tour's absence, the resort hosted LIV Golf events between 2022 and 2025. The traditional circuit's return now coincides with Trump serving as president.

Recently, the resort also became home to a new addition: a 15-foot golden statue of Trump, commissioned by a cryptocurrency group at a cost of $360,000.

Security Incident at Doral

On Sunday, a security incident occurred when a man was arrested at Trump National Doral after assaulting a Secret Service agent at a checkpoint. He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Trump's "Project Freedom" Initiative

Shortly after Young's last putt, Trump took to Truth Social to announce "Project Freedom," a mission to escort commercial ships trapped in the Strait of Hormuz.

"Countries around the world have asked us to help free their ships, stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, in something they have absolutely nothing to do with," Trump wrote.

The initiative launched this Monday, amid the crisis with Iran that began on February 28, when the Iranian regime blocked the strait in retaliation for airstrikes by the United States and Israel, stranding about 2,000 ships and driving up oil prices.

Trump ordered a naval blockade against Iranian ports on April 12 and warned that any interference with Project Freedom "will be dealt with forcefully."

Iran dismissed the operation, with its state media calling it a "delusion" of Trump, while the United States commenced the mission to free the ships with the support of its naval forces in the Gulf of Oman.

Trump returned to the White House on Sunday night, as his Washington D.C. course prepares to host the LIV Golf Virginia tournament next week, and Doral is set to host the G20 summit in December 2026.
