A massive crane unexpectedly toppled over in a residential neighborhood in Hialeah, Florida, on Wednesday, causing panic among residents and narrowly avoiding several homes without resulting in any injuries.

The event unfolded around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of 63rd Street and Palm Avenue, where a subcontractor for Florida Power & Light was conducting work on a concrete utility pole.

The crane, an all-terrain model with a lifting capacity of up to 800 tons, had its boom fully extended and its stabilizers in place at the time of the collapse.

As it fell, the crane's boom knocked down a concrete pole and part of a tree, grazing fences but miraculously avoiding direct impact with any homes or vehicles.

Aerial footage depicted the overturned equipment lying just a few feet away from several houses, where families were inside at the time.

Mayra Jiménez, who lives two doors down from the site of the incident, reacted quickly to the loud crash.

“It was a boom, so I ran because I knew something had happened. It was very loud, very loud,” Jiménez stated.

Another local resident, whose identity remains undisclosed, mentioned that the wife and children of a man were inside the house that the crane's boom nearly struck. “I live right there; that could have been me,” he remarked.

Richard Alberto, residing directly across from where the incident occurred, succinctly described the scene: “This is crazy what we’re witnessing here.”

Hialeah police cordoned off the area, halted traffic, and kept residents away from the affected zone.

Hialeah Fire Department confirmed that no injuries occurred and no power outages were reported, despite the fallen pole belonging to Florida Power & Light’s network.

The crane's owner, Sims Crane & Equipment, dispatched additional crews to right the overturned machinery, describing the operation as both delicate and hazardous within the residential area.

Hialeah is no stranger to severe incidents like this in residential areas.

In 2019, a Cuban worker in his forties died from electrocution during a construction job in Hialeah after striking a high-voltage line with a beam on Palm Avenue, the same road as this recent event.

In November 2025, another dramatic accident in Hialeah highlighted the dangers faced by workers and residents in this city, which boasts the highest concentration of Cuban Americans in the United States.

Employees from Sims Crane spent the night strategizing the safest way to recover the machinery, with the operation ongoing.

“It could have been much worse, so we’re thankful nothing happened,” Jiménez added.
