Police Bodycam Footage Released in Miami Locksmith Murder Case

Wednesday, April 29, 2026 by Olivia Torres

The Miami police department has released bodycam footage from officers who responded to a shocking incident where 37-year-old locksmith, Adrián Venereo, was found fatally shot in a hallway on the seventh floor of a West Miami apartment complex. This incident has deeply unsettled the Hispanic community in South Florida.

The dramatic footage shows an officer sprinting down the corridor of the building located at 6355 Southwest 8th Street. The officer approaches Venereo's lifeless body, lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head.

"He’s been shot in the head," one officer remarked upon arriving at the tragic scene.

A member of the Miami City Fire and Rescue quickly confirmed, "No vital signs."

The violent event unfolded on February 20. Venereo had been called to change the lock on the apartment of 32-year-old Cuban, Luis David Lemus, who had been locked out along with his father.

The arrest report details that while Venereo was working on the door, Lemus allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him point-blank in the head before fleeing the scene.

Surveillance cameras captured the moments leading up to the murder, showing Venereo walking down the hallway with Lemus, pulling his wheeled toolbox, mere seconds before the fatal attack.

The same footage also shows the suspect's father, his arms and hands stained with blood, confronting his son after the shooting and shouting, "Why did you do that?"

Lemus was apprehended just hours after the incident. The Tactical Robbery Unit located him at 12:11 a.m. on February 21 at the intersection of Southwest 52nd Court and 7th Street Southwest, armed and detained.

Lemus confessed to shooting someone, according to prosecutors, and admitted to the crime.

When appearing in Miami-Dade court via videoconference from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, Lemus remained silent, wrapped in a blanket on a bed, not responding to the judge or the Spanish interpreter.

Judge Mindy S Glazer denied bail, appointed a public defender, and reminded Lemus of his right to remain silent.

Lemus is facing a charge of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

Days after the shooting, the final moments of the locksmith’s life were shared publicly, accompanied by a heartfelt statement from his widow, Nicole Galvis.

Galvis expressed concern when two hours passed without any word from her husband, noticing that his location showed no movement.

"I just felt something was wrong and when I got there, I saw the entire crime scene and the police. They don’t know why he did it; he was just working," she recounted.

"Please, let justice be served for him. This is not right, this is very unfair. He was just helping," pleaded Nicole Galvis.

Venereo leaves behind two children, aged nine and 13.

The motive for this senseless crime remains undisclosed, and the case is still awaiting trial.
