A towering 15-foot golden statue of former President Donald Trump has been unveiled at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Doral, Florida. This eye-catching sculpture quickly became the focal point as the course hosts the Cadillac Championship of the PGA Tour this week, according to U.S. media reports.

The artwork, dubbed "Don Colossus," was crafted by 73-year-old sculptor Alan Cottrill, who operates out of Zanesville, Ohio. Made of bronze and layered with gold leaf, the statue depicts Trump raising his fist in the iconic gesture he made seconds after a bullet grazed his right ear during an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.

Perched atop a custom-designed seven-foot pedestal, the statue reaches a total height of 22 feet—approximately 6.7 meters—dominating the resort's golfing landscape from its prominent position.

Cottrill described his creation in a statement: "Strategically placed overlooking the resort's golf courses, its gold leaf surface dynamically interacts with the South Florida sunlight."

The piece was commissioned in August 2024 by the cryptocurrency group $PATRIOT, which spent $300,000 on the bronze sculpture and an additional $60,000 on the gold coating, totaling $360,000. However, delivery was delayed for months due to a copyright dispute; the group had used images of the statue to promote their digital tokens without the artist's consent. Cottrill withheld the work at an undisclosed location in Muskingum County, Ohio, refusing to release it until full payment was received.

In February 2026, Cottrill was adamant: "I’d be a fool to install it without payment, and I’m no fool."

Finally, an agreement was reached last week—according to $PATRIOT, an anonymous donor covered the outstanding intellectual property rights balance. Cottrill then wrapped the statue "like a mummy," secured it to a flatbed trailer, and transported it over 1,100 miles from Ohio to Miami.

Once in place, the statue became the "talk of the circuit," as reported by Golfweek. Not everyone was thrilled: when a tournament photographer invited several PGA Tour staff members to pose with the statue, they collectively declined. The photographer quipped, "Okay, I didn’t know you were all so woke."

The 2026 Cadillac Championship of the PGA Tour runs from April 29 to May 3, marking the main circuit's return to Trump National Doral for the first time since 2016, when the course last hosted the WGC-Cadillac Championship. From 2022 to 2025, the venue was a host for LIV Golf.

"Don Colossus" is not the first golden statue of Trump: a smaller gold figure of the former president was displayed at the 2021 CPAC in Orlando. Renderings of Trump’s future presidential library in Miami also feature a massive golden statue.

The sculpture arrives at a significant time for the resort: the Trump National Doral is set to host the G20 summit on December 14 and 15, 2026, meaning world leaders will be greeted by the imposing golden figure upon arrival.

The White House confirmed on April 25 that Russian President Vladimir Putin will be invited to the meeting, although Trump expressed skepticism about his attendance: "I’m not sure he’s coming. I doubt it, to be honest, but if he does, it could be very useful."

The total purse for the 2026 Cadillac Championship is $20 million, with $3.6 million awarded to the tournament winner, who this week shares the spotlight with the circuit's most talked-about statue.
