Activist and author Guillermo Rodríguez Sánchez, known on social media as Guillermo Rodsan, has announced the successful collection of one million pesos for a family living in dire poverty in Júcaro, a coastal town in the southern part of Ciego de Ávila province. The funds aim to provide a new home and improved living conditions for two children enduring deplorable circumstances.

In a Facebook post, Rodríguez attributed this achievement to the collective contributions of his followers and the pivotal support from a group of women he affectionately referred to as "powerful moms."

“If I tell you that with everyone's contributions and the final push from the powerful moms, we now have... one million pesos for the house and new life of these children in Júcaro on the southern coast of Ciego de Ávila,” wrote the activist, who has previously helped shed light on similar cases.

Just four days prior, Rodríguez had announced that in less than 24 hours, a social media-driven solidarity campaign had managed to gather 215,000 pesos for this family.

Challenges in Rural Júcaro

Júcaro is a rural area plagued by high levels of social vulnerability. The Cuban economic crisis, highlighted by inflation, prolonged blackouts, and shortages of building materials, has deepened the poverty affecting the most disadvantaged families.

Social Media: A New Avenue for Support

With the Cuban government failing to provide effective solutions for families in critical situations, grassroots fundraising via social media has become a common means of solidarity. These efforts are often spearheaded by influencers and activists from the Cuban diaspora who have large followings on digital platforms.

“The blessings coming their way are enormous,” concluded the activist in his message, ending with a whimsical note: “Hold on to the brush, we’re taking the ladder.”
