A young Cuban native from San Miguel del Padrón, Havana, has publicly declared his departure from the religion he practiced in Cuba, announcing his conversion to evangelical Christianity after relocating to Miami, United States, via a TikTok video.
Known on social media as Sovian (@.soviancuba99), he directed his message specifically to people familiar with him from his neighborhood in San Miguel del Padrón, making it clear that he has left his past life behind upon entering the U.S.
"My past life is left behind, it stayed in San Miguel del Padrón. I came to the United States, my life is starting anew, I am beginning from scratch in this country. Thanks to God, I'm on the right path," he stated in the video.
In his explicit declaration about his religious transformation, Sovian remarked, "What doesn't add to my life, I've left behind, and regarding religion, so there's no confusion, I've completely left my past religion behind."
Toward the end of the video, Sovian recites in English a typical conversion prayer from Pentecostal evangelism, seeking forgiveness for his sins, breaking "all ties with the world, the devil, and the flesh," and affirming his faith in Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.
"The only religion in my life now is this one," he stated before beginning the prayer.

San Miguel del Padrón is one of Havana's municipalities deeply rooted in Afro-Cuban religions, with over 50 santería houses-temples and more than 20 babalawos practicing Regla de Ocha, Palo Monte, and Abakuá Societies entrenched in its neighborhoods since the 19th century.
