Ovi's Humorous Response to Airport Escort Video and Past Deportation Scare

Monday, April 27, 2026 by Amelia Soto

Cuban reggaeton artist Ovi took to Instagram on Monday to humorously address a video capturing him being escorted by what appear to be two officers to a detention room—often referred to as the "little room"—at what seems to be an American airport.

The 16-second video, shared by the entertainment profile "Un Martí To Durako," shows the musician walking beside the agents in the baggage claim area, with bilingual signs and LATAM Airlines posters in the background.

Instead of being annoyed, Ovi commented directly on the post with a mix of pride and relief: "The only one who got out of KROME and remains loved by immigration hahaha coming in like a boss, escorted right to the door, thank you GOD."

The Krome Incident and Its Aftermath

Ovi's mention of the Krome Detention Center is not without reason. Back in September 2024, Ovi was detained in Miami following a traffic incident where he allegedly pointed a gun at another driver from his McLaren on Southwest Eighth Street.

Florida Highway Patrol officers forcibly removed him from his Lamborghini in Doral. The footage of his arrest spread widely on social media, stirring significant controversy within the Miami Cuban community.

After appearing before Judge Mindy Glazer and posting a $6,500 bond, ICE placed an immigration hold on him, transferring him to Krome, where he spent over 90 days facing a deportation order to Cuba.

Ovi later recounted his ordeal, stating, "they wanted to send me back to Cuba again."

A Costly Legal Battle

He managed to avoid deportation thanks to a unique immigration pardon secured by his attorney, with his up-to-date tax payments serving as a key argument. Ovi revealed that the legal process cost him nearly $80,000 in attorney fees.

Monday's video suggests that despite resolving his immigration status, Ovi continues to face special scrutiny when entering the United States. His public reaction, marked by humor rather than distress, shows how he's come to terms with this life-defining experience.

Advocacy for Immigrant Rights

In April 2025, Ovi stood up for immigrant rights with a straightforward message: "This is not Cuba."

The video posted on Monday quickly garnered over 26,700 views, proving that Ovi's story still captivates his audience and the Cuban community abroad.
