Bold Response from Cuban Woman in the U.S. to Critics of Seeking Love in Cuba

Friday, April 10, 2026 by Grace Ramos

A Cuban woman living in the United States firmly addressed a critic who questioned her choice to meet a man during a trip to Cuba, emphasizing that the encounter was purely spontaneous and that she does not financially support anyone.

The video, shared last Wednesday by TikTok user @enly1903, was a response to a comment from a follower named Yamira. Yamira had written, "With so many men here, going to Cuba to find men who have nothing to offer but sex and paying for everything over there."

Without hesitation, the creator calmly but assertively dismantled each aspect of the criticism.

"I genuinely wasn't looking for anyone because I don't have anyone... it's like you take a day off for vacation, and by chance, I ended up in Cuba," she explained, describing the meeting as "a spur-of-the-moment thing, a memory, a keepsake."

Addressing accusations of paying for the man's company, she was equally straightforward: "I don't pay anyone because I'm quite humble, I work, I have two daughters, and I don't have that kind of money to be supporting someone."

She clarified that she did cover the hotel expenses during her trip, but only because she had planned to go regardless: "I went to a hotel with someone, and of course, I paid for it, but I was going anyway, so it doesn't bother me much."

The TikToker also dismissed the notion that she repeated a past mistake: "Believe me, I haven't repeated any mistake. I learn from my mistakes; I have my feet firmly on the ground."

As evidence, she noted that it has been over two years since that encounter without getting involved romantically: "That's why it's been two and a half years, and I'm still single."

An interesting detail was that Yamira, the author of the critical comment, is actually a follower of the account, something the creator pointed out as contradictory to the tone of her message.

Rather than getting upset, @enly1903 acknowledged that she anticipated such reactions and uses them to her advantage: "I knew that by acting as if I met someone in Cuba, many people like you would comment on things like this," she added, "Every comment, every harsh word, every ill wish people might have, it all benefits me."

The video taps into a recurring debate within the Cuban community on TikTok about romantic relationships between diaspora members and individuals on the island, a topic that sparks divided opinions between those cautioning against exploitative dynamics and those defending personal autonomy against external judgment.

This type of content has sparked similar reactions in recent months: in February 2025, another Cuban TikToker criticized women who bring partners from Cuba only to abandon them, and on March 18, Cuban women in Italy reported Italian men traveling to the island seeking partners or engaging in sex tourism.

Understanding Romantic Dynamics Between Cuban Diaspora and Island Residents

Why do some people criticize relationships formed during trips to Cuba?

How does @enly1903 respond to accusations of supporting a partner in Cuba financially?

@enly1903 firmly states that she does not financially support anyone, emphasizing her humble lifestyle and responsibilities, such as working and raising two daughters.
