Dollar Rises in Cuba's Informal Market After Nearly Two Weeks of Stability

The U.S. dollar has shown signs of life in Cuba's informal market!

After a stagnant period of 13 days at 515 CUP per dollar, the American currency has experienced a slight uptick in value as of this Friday.

On the morning of April 3, the dollar is being traded at an average of 517 CUP, according to the independent source elTOQUE.

This marks an increase of two pesos compared to the consistent rate held since March 21.

elTOQUE also reported on Thursday that by 2026, the Cuban peso had depreciated by 158 CUP against the dollar, which translates to a 44.3% decline. On this date last year, April 3, 2025, the dollar was valued at 357 CUP.

As for the euro, it remains unchanged for yet another day, maintaining its value at 580 CUP for 14 consecutive days.

The volatile Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), utilized by the Cuban regime since 2019, is once again climbing today, reaching 400 CUP.
