Monday, March 30, 2026 by Daniel Colon

On Saturday, Cuban activist Iliana Curra Lussón confronted demonstrators from the No Kings movement along Calle Ocho in Miami, voicing strong anti-communist slogans.

A video shared by exiled Cuban rapper El Funky on his Instagram account captures the moment as Curra Lussón directs harsh words toward the protesters.

The incident took place on a day when the No Kings movement organized rallies involving millions across more than 3,000 locations in the United States and cities worldwide, opposing President Donald Trump.

In the footage, Curra Lussón directly calls out the demonstrators with cries of "Communist! Communist! Down with communism!"

El Funky described the confrontation, remarking, "This lady faced off against a caravan of communists right on Calle Ocho," highlighting the episode as part of the Cuban diaspora's broader anti-communist narrative in Miami.

The woman's reaction underscores the significant tension within the Cuban exile community regarding these demonstrations, which many view as being co-opted by radical left-wing organizations.

In Miami, the "No Kings" marches were held in Tropical Park and at Máximo Gómez Park in Little Havana, organized by Miami-Dade Democrats and Miami Indivisible.

This clash arises during a period of heightened stress for the Cuban community. Since March 13, Cuba has experienced a new wave of protests in Morón, Ciego de Ávila, due to power outages lasting up to twenty hours, food shortages, and political repression, with at least 14 detainees reported by Cubalex.

Exiles in Miami have responded to these protests with caravans, gatherings in front of Versalles Restaurant, and a rally in Hialeah on March 25 under the banner "Cuba Next," calling on Trump to prioritize Cuban freedom.

El Funky, a member of the San Isidro Movement and co-author of "Patria y Vida" — the anthem of the July 11, 2021 protests — has been in exile since November 2021, organizing anti-communist concerts and solidarity events for Cuban political prisoners.
