Ryan Gosling found himself in a humorous and slightly awkward situation on television, all thanks to his long-term relationship with Eva Mendes.
The Canadian actor appeared on The View to promote his latest film, Project Hail Mary. However, instead of just discussing his movie, he was unexpectedly put through a "Cuban test" by host Ana Navarro, eager to see how much he had absorbed from over a decade with the Cuban-American actress.
Navarro kicked things off with a straightforward question: "What is a croqueta?" Gosling confidently answered, "It's like heaven on a plate... something fried that you eat with your hands." He passed with flying colors.
The questions then became more challenging with "picadillo." Here, Gosling hit a stumbling block, admitting, "I'm freezing up!" amid laughter, as he struggled to recall the answer, eventually needing some assistance from the panel.
The next question was a bit easier: his favorite pastelito. "Guava," he replied without hesitation, earning applause from the audience.
The toughest moment arose with the term "papi rico," which neither Gosling nor his co-star could accurately define, leading to jokes on set. "Eva Mendes is going to need to revoke your Cuban card," quipped Navarro with a laugh.
Despite the setback, Gosling didn't give up. He redeemed himself by mentioning Cuban cultural staples like mojo, yuca, and the ongoing debate between Ironbeer and Materva. He also praised the arroz con leche made by Eva's mother.
Navarro declared, "You've redeemed yourself," acknowledging his efforts. While Gosling may still have more to learn, it's evident that after many years with Eva Mendes, he's well on his way to being an "adopted Cuban."
