Cuban Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Terrorism and Illegal Weapons Possession

In a move that underscores the Cuban government's harsh stance on dissent, Osvaldo Fernández Pichardo has been sentenced to life imprisonment for charges including terrorism and illegal possession of weapons or explosives, as reported by the Ministry of the Interior (MININT).

The ruling was handed down by the First Criminal Chamber of the Provincial Popular Court of Camagüey, under case No. 6 of 2025. According to MININT, the trial was conducted publicly and served as an "exemplary" demonstration of justice.

Authorities claimed that during the trial, it was established that an individual residing in the United States, described as having significant anti-Cuban Revolution activism, allegedly offered Fernández Pichardo $600 to attack a member of the Revolutionary National Police in a public setting.

This act was purportedly intended to incite fear, disrupt public order, and instill a sense of insecurity among the populace. The incident reportedly took place on May 29 of the previous year, with images of the attack later being circulated.

Details of the Alleged Attack

According to the regime's account, Fernández Pichardo allegedly assaulted a uniformed and unarmed female police officer from behind while she was walking along República Street Boulevard in Camagüey. The assailant purportedly used a bladed weapon, taking advantage of his physical stature to overpower the officer.

The injuries inflicted were said to pose a severe threat to the officer's life, necessitating medical treatment. In addition to life imprisonment, the court imposed several supplementary penalties, including the loss of public rights, confiscation of assets connected to the crime, and restrictions on passport issuance and leaving the country.

Judicial Proceedings and Additional Penalties
