According to reports from both the National Seismological Service and official media outlets, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Cuba in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The seismic activity was recorded at 12:28 a.m. local time, with the epicenter located approximately 37 kilometers southeast of Imías in Guantánamo province, at a depth of around 20 kilometers.

As per information shared by seismologist Enrique Diego Arango Arias on Facebook, the tremor was felt across several eastern Cuban provinces, including Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, and Granma. This marks the fourth noticeable earthquake in the region this year.

The Cuban News Agency (ACN) reported that the quake disrupted the night’s tranquility and caused alarm among residents. In Guantánamo city, many people evacuated their homes, with some descending from buildings out of fear of aftershocks.

State media gathered eyewitness accounts describing the quake as "long and very strong." Neighbors across various neighborhoods alerted one another to seek safety in more secure areas, particularly on lower floors, a precaution that has become routine due to the frequency of such events.

Social media was abuzz with multiple reports of the quake's perceptibility throughout the eastern region, as citizens shared their experiences and safety tips.

So far, authorities have not reported any human or material damage resulting from the earthquake.

This seismic event occurs amid a particularly challenging backdrop, characterized by prolonged blackouts due to the instability of the National Electric System, which heightened the sense of uncertainty during the night.

This latest quake adds to a series of recent seismic activities in the same area: a magnitude 5.3 earthquake reported on March 6 and a 5.7 tremor on February 6, both also centered near the municipality of Imías.
