The Cuban actor Armando Tomey recently took to social media to share his thoughts on the dire circumstances in his homeland. In his heartfelt message, he expressed sorrow for the harsh reality many Cubans face and conveyed solidarity with those who still reside on the island.

"My stroll turned somber. A cyclist inquired about Cuba. Cuba is enduring misery, repression, and cries for freedom. Even if you live abroad with a comfortable life, the pain and sadness for your loved ones suffering from hardships and oppression, trapped in darkness and hopelessness, remind you that you're part of this absurd world," the actor penned in a Facebook post. This message was accompanied by a video showing his encounter with an Argentine cyclist.

In the same thread, Tomey added another comment emphasizing the importance of standing with those still in Cuba: "We cannot turn a blind eye knowing our people suffer. At the very least, we should be honest and express our pain and solidarity with them. Those of us who left haven't lost the right to voice our opinions. We remain a part of our homeland and our people."

Tomey, a familiar face in Cuban television for decades, participated in well-known productions such as Sol de Batey, along with various soap operas and series that made him a household name across generations on the island.

The actor made the move to the United States in 2013 with his wife Raisa Ramos and their children. He later explained that the decision came after years of economic struggles and professional limitations. In an interview, he described his life in Cuba as "living to survive, not to thrive," and despite his artistic achievements, the material scarcity and cultural restrictions ultimately influenced his choice to emigrate to the United States.

Having graduated from the Higher Institute of Art in 1981, Tomey began his career in theater before gaining fame on television. Over the years, he took part in numerous dramatic and entertainment productions, solidifying his status as a respected actor in the Cuban audiovisual scene.

Since settling in the U.S., Tomey has reinvented himself professionally while staying connected to the arts. In Miami, he's engaged in theatrical projects and other endeavors, maintaining a link with Cuban audiences through his social media presence.
