Cuban comedian Ulises Toirac has taken a strong stance against the recent announcement from the Cuban government regarding discussions with the United States, highlighting the dangers of manipulating information and ignoring the truth.

"Reality can't be suppressed forever, especially when it involves consequences that are massive or profound. Sooner or later, that reality emerges... INEVITABLY," he expressed on his Facebook page.

The actor voiced his disapproval of the government's official narrative that attempted to hide the existence of these talks, accusing them of maintaining an opaque relationship with the people.

"Failing to foresee the consequences of a narrative that will inevitably be questioned is immature and involves a massive component that defines the Government-People relationship: 'you don't have the right to know what I decide, or with whom, or how'.

Toirac acknowledged that all governments conduct delicate matters discreetly, which is understandable. However, he criticized, "They are cautious not to declare something that will later contradict them ('they'll have to swallow it eventually'), and the pretense never turns into denial."

The Cuban Government's Flip-Flop

The confirmation by Miguel Díaz-Canel about the discussions with Washington marks a significant shift from the previous consistent denials.

In recent months, both the president and his Deputy Foreign Minister, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, consistently denied any meetings, claiming either "that dialogue hasn't started" or the contacts were merely "technical in the migratory field."

However, Díaz-Canel now admits that Cuban officials have engaged in conversations with U.S. representatives aimed at "finding solutions through dialogue to bilateral differences," overseen by him and Raúl Castro.

Toirac's Critical Perspective on Government Strategy

For Toirac, the government's approach to handling information reveals a profound disconnection from reality.

"All the spokespersons, government members, ideologists with clarity: 'We are not negotiating, we are an impregnable bastion, blah blah blah...'," he mocked.

The comedian criticized the official narrative for trying to coexist with an outdated ideological story that no longer aligns with the country's real needs.

"Just as it was necessary to sit down and negotiate, concessions will have to be made (all negotiations require them), and the counterpart will not be satisfied with just a few... The concessions made by the Cuban government will determine the concessions made by the U.S. And those concessions are needed here," he emphasized.

Finally, the actor compared the regime's propagandistic manipulation with the reality of the situation, describing it as a dangerous and unequal power play.

"They can keep playing cat and mouse like in cartoons. In reality, the cat eats the mouse. This metaphor isn't about Cuba and the U.S.; it speaks to lies and reality. I've never seen a mouse digesting dinner with the cat's tail hanging out of its mouth," he remarked.

Underlying Context: An Unprecedented Crisis

Following the capture of Nicolás Maduro on January 3, Cuba lost its supply of approximately 30,000 barrels of Venezuelan oil per day, which accounted for 40% of its energy needs.

By February, up to 58% of the island was experiencing simultaneous power outages, with a generation shortfall of 1,754 MW. The Trump administration has imposed over 240 new sanctions and labeled Cuba an "unusual threat."

These widespread blackouts and the economic crisis are fueling growing social unrest, reflected in the increasing citizen dissatisfaction and near-daily protests in various cities across the country.
