Protests Erupt for Fourth Consecutive Night: Miramar Residents Stage Pot-Banging Demonstration Over Havana Power Outages

Tuesday, March 10, 2026 by Richard Morales

Residents of Miramar, a neighborhood in Havana, engaged in a pot-banging protest during a blackout to express their frustration with the ongoing power cuts plaguing the Cuban capital.

This protest marks the fourth consecutive night of demonstrations across various parts of the city due to the persistent lack of electricity.

A video capturing the event, where the clamor of banging pots can be heard resonating in the dark, was shared on social media by journalist Mario J. Pentón.

"Happening right now," emphasized the journalist in the comments section of his post.

The footage, albeit dimly lit, vividly illustrates how the area's residents voiced their discontent by striking pots and pans from their homes while the neighborhood remained in darkness.

Communicator and activist Adelth Bonne Gamboa reported that in Santo Suárez, similar, albeit less intense, protests could be heard.

This incident is part of a series of similar demonstrations recorded in various parts of the capital in recent days, as citizens resort to pot-banging to express their dissatisfaction with power outages and the ongoing energy crisis plaguing the island.

Additionally, on the same Monday, a group of students staged a peaceful sit-in on the steps of the University of Havana to protest the academic conditions and the hybrid learning model that several of the country’s universities maintain amidst the electricity crisis.

According to student testimonies cited by journalist Magdiel Jorge Castro on social media, the discontent arises from the regime's decision to persist with distance learning despite frequent blackouts and connectivity challenges affecting much of the nation.
