A Cuban father, identified as Ángel Luis Zamora Gómez, has publicly alleged that his son was admitted to intensive care after consuming allegedly contaminated sweets purchased from a confectionery in Las Tunas.
The accusation was shared on Facebook from the profile EliAngel Zamora, which pinpointed the confectionery El Caramelón on Frank País Avenue, adjacent to the BANDEC bank near the stadium, as the source of the tainted products.
According to his account, the child, Ángel Jesús, required hospitalization on March 7, 2026, and was subsequently taken to the intensive care unit after eating the sweets.
“My son Ángel Jesús had to be admitted to intensive care because of that contaminated garbage they sold,” the father expressed in his post.
The frustrated parent also mentioned that he visited the store multiple times to report the incident, but claimed the store's management has neither visited nor called to check on the child's condition.
“I went there three times to report my son's case, yet those people haven't bothered to visit or call to ask about the child's condition,” he stated.
He further noted that his child is currently in an intermediate care unit and is gradually recovering.
The Facebook post included images from the intensive care unit where the child was treated, along with photos of the sweets alleged to have caused the poisoning and other products sold at the store.
In the comments section, several individuals shared similar experiences or urged authorities to investigate the matter.
Yunior Bermúdez Velázquez commented: “I once bought sweets from the same shop, and upon reaching home, I had to discard them due to their bad taste and spoilage. Fortunately, no one ate them. This is a hazard, especially for a child.”
Meanwhile, Willian Figueredo Ramírez questioned the lack of sanitary controls and demanded a response from the authorities. “Where is the action from the Hygiene and Epidemiology authorities and the Inspection Directorate of the People's Power? Wishing your child a swift recovery,” he remarked.
