Trump Warns of Cuba's Dire Humanitarian Situation

Tuesday, March 10, 2026 by Charlotte Gomez

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again brought attention to Cuba in his political rhetoric, emphasizing the island's severe humanitarian crisis and hinting at potential shifts in U.S.-Cuba relations.

In recent remarks, Trump indicated that the Cuban government is at a critical juncture and suggested significant changes might be on the horizon.

"The takeover could be friendly, or it might not," Trump stated, referring to possible future scenarios for Cuba. According to him, Cuban authorities "rely on Marco," implying Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"He speaks the language, which is always beneficial, but he’s negotiating, and it might be a friendly takeover, or perhaps not. It wouldn't matter, because they are truly on their last legs," Trump asserted.

The former president also painted a bleak picture of Cuba's current situation, highlighting the shortage of essential resources and a prolonged economic crisis.

"They have no energy, no money. They're in serious trouble from a humanitarian standpoint, and we don't want to see that," Trump remarked.

Trump also mentioned the substantial electoral support he claims to have received from the Cuban-American community in the United States, noting that he achieved record support levels within this demographic.

His comments come at a particularly fragile moment for the island, which is grappling with frequent power outages, fuel shortages, inflation, and a deep economic crisis that has led to a significant migration of Cubans in recent years.

Meanwhile, millions of Cubans on the island continue to face daily challenges with electricity shortages, lack of food, and limited opportunities, amidst a steady decline in living conditions that has characterized the country's reality over the past years.
