Cubans in Cape Coral Rally for Cuba's Freedom

Tuesday, March 10, 2026 by Madison Pena

On Sunday, Cubans residing in Cape Coral, located in the southwestern part of Florida, took to the streets in a peaceful demonstration demanding freedom for Cuba. The event was organized by members of the local community.

Journalist Javier Díaz shared on Facebook that the protest gathered Cubans living in the area, where the number of residents from the island has surged significantly in recent years.

According to Díaz, cities such as Naples, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Lehigh Acres have experienced a noticeable increase in Cuban settlers who have relocated there after leaving the island.

Among the attendees was Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer, who expressed his support for the event and its participants through a Facebook post.

"Yesterday, we went to Cape Coral to support many patriotic Cubans who organized a demonstration for Cuba's freedom," Ferrer wrote on his Facebook page.

Ferrer also highlighted that the protest was incident-free and praised the event's organization.

"Everything was very well organized, and not a single provocateur or troublemaker, the kind the regime infiltrates into the exile community," he stated.

This mobilization underscores the growing political engagement of the Cuban community in southwestern Florida, where an increasing number of residents are participating in public initiatives to spotlight the island's situation and advocate for political change.

Similarly, on Sunday, dozens of Cubans and supporters gathered along Dixie Highway in Louisville, Kentucky, to protest the ongoing crisis in Cuba and demand political reform on the island.

The demonstration, covered by local TV station WLKY, brought together members of the Cuban community who voiced their opposition to the communist regime, calling for free elections, greater opportunities, and respect for citizens' rights.
