The Cuban authorities announced on Friday the arrest of individuals responsible for the murder of José Alfonso Joa Sierra, affectionately called “El Chino” by his family and neighbors. His body was discovered days earlier in his home in the Chicharrones neighborhood of Santiago de Cuba.

An official source connected to the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) revealed that the suspects are now awaiting legal proceedings. This case had deeply unsettled the local community, where the victim reportedly lived alone.

The victim's family members discovered his lifeless body, prompting an immediate response from the relevant authorities. In the aftermath, MININT officers, along with forensic experts and provincial authorities, launched an investigation to uncover the details of the crime and apprehend those responsible.

The report highlights that in the days following the discovery, there was a continuous effort to deliver justice and address the community's concern. This effort culminated in the announcement of the suspects' capture on Friday.

However, the report does not disclose the number of suspects detained, their identities, or the specifics of how the murder was committed. Details regarding the cause of death or any motive beyond theft remain unspecified.

Back in August 2025, authorities reported the arrest of four individuals allegedly involved in the murder of a community member in Quintoque, within the Songo-La Maya municipality, also in Santiago de Cuba. According to official sources linked to MININT, the suspects allegedly broke into the victim's home intending to steal livestock. During the robbery, they allegedly restrained and gagged the victim, leading to death by suffocation.

This crime occurred amidst a backdrop of escalating violence in various regions of the country. Later, in October, residents of a communal living space in central Santiago de Cuba discovered the body of José Luis Rodríguez, known as "Jaca," in his home. This discovery was made after a resident noticed a strong odor emanating from the room where the body was located.

Testimonies shared on social media indicated that several belongings were missing from the house, including an electric scooter, clothing, and other items, suggesting robbery as a potential motive. This incident caused significant distress among neighbors and reignited discussions about safety and rising violence in the province.
