Dariel Fernández, the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, paid a visit to opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer during his fasting days to express solidarity with the cause of political prisoners in Cuba.
"His sacrifice embodies the pain, resilience, and hope of a people yearning for freedom. For the United States of America, the situation in Cuba is not merely foreign policy—it's a matter of national security," Fernández stated about Ferrer on X.
Fernández further remarked, "The communist and socialist dictatorship has obliterated the freedom of every Cuban and devastated our homeland. As the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, I will continue to raise my voice alongside our community. The freedom of Cuba is drawing nearer every day."
In a conversation with Ferrer, Fernández asserted that a pivotal moment is at hand. "We're not talking about dialogue here; we're discussing the day and time when these murderers, castro-communists, and drug traffickers must leave the island," he said, acknowledging Marco Rubio's role in a potential transition.
Fernández has been vocal against business licenses connected to operations with the Cuban regime, and in January, he announced plans to inform President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio about national security threats he claims jeopardize the South Florida community.
Meanwhile, Ferrer initiated a three-day hunger strike starting last Thursday to stand in solidarity with political prisoner Roilán Álvarez, who is also fasting in a Holguín prison facility.
