This past weekend, ocean waters once again surged into the lower-lying areas of Havana, flooding streets near the iconic Malecón. This event coincided with the arrival of the season's tenth cold front.

On Facebook, the Council of Administration for Plaza de la Revolución issued a warning about "minor water accumulations in low-lying zones," specifically highlighting streets such as Calzada, 3rd, and 5th.

Authorities urged residents to avoid these affected areas and remain alert to official guidance, placing particular emphasis on the Vedado-Malecón and Rampa Popular Councils.

Although the sea's intrusion was described as mild, locals caution that the impact can be significant for those residing near the shoreline.

Carlos Espinosa Betancourt, who manages the Facebook group "Maravilloso Malecón," noted that this phenomenon happens whenever high waves accompany cold fronts. He warned that the situation might worsen due to garbage accumulation on the streets.

"It's a mild intrusion, yet quite harmful to those of us living nearby," he commented, also pointing out that drainage issues and poor maintenance elevate the risks during such events.

Social media images reveal water advancing over roadways and partially covering sidewalks in the Vedado district.

These coastal floods are a common occurrence in the Cuban capital during the winter months, affecting homes, traffic, and essential services amidst a continuous decline in urban infrastructure.
