Authorities in Miami-Dade County have announced the detention of 22 individuals in connection with Operation "Ghost Writer," a six-month investigation that uncovered an organized fraud scheme in vehicle registration and licensing agencies across the county.
The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, the State Attorney's Office, and the County Tax Collector's Office, as reported by Telemundo 51.
During a press conference, Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz revealed that those arrested face numerous charges related to the illegal manipulation of official records.
Authorities disclosed that employees from several agencies gained unauthorized access to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles databases to obtain personal information and vehicle data.
This information was allegedly used to execute fraudulent title transfers, forge signatures, and create fake notarial documents to unlawfully change car ownership.
