The Cuban ambassador to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, dismissed as "speculation" recent reports suggesting alleged contacts between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, the grandson of Raúl Castro, often referred to as "El Cangrejo."

"These same outlets later admit they have no confirmation of what they're publishing. So, to me, it sounds like speculation. I rely on facts," the Cuban diplomat told EFE.

This statement arises amidst heightened anticipation following reports by Axios and the Miami Herald, which suggest the initiation of conversations between Rubio and El Cangrejo regarding a potential transition in Cuba.

The diplomat emphasized that Cuba is open to dialogue based on mutual respect, equal conditions, respect for sovereignty, independence, and non-interference in internal affairs.

"We don't impose conditions on anyone, but we also don't accept conditions being imposed on us," he stated. "History has shown us that dialogue works when it is rooted in equality and mutual respect, not when there is pressure or imposition," he added.

Soberón's remarks mark the first from the Cuban government on this sensitive issue. The Cuban Presidency has not made any official statement regarding the alleged ongoing dialogue between Rubio and the Army General's grandson.

Although various international sources have confirmed that contacts have been initiated to discuss the political future of the island, the Cuban government's official channels have remained silent.

Recently, the Presidency has focused on disseminating content related to Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez's visit to Russia, institutional messages from the Ministry of Public Health, and the solar photovoltaic systems installation program to address the energy crisis.

On Wednesday, official media personality Pedro Jorge Velázquez, known as "El Necio," called for an "urgent clarification" from Cuban authorities. The activist, who supports the government narrative, warned that beyond the content of any potential dialogue, institutional silence could lead to sensitive political interpretations. The Presidency did not respond to his call.

On social media, expectations continue to rise following reports of ongoing talks between representatives from Cuba and the United States.

Comments suggest a supposed "fear within the upper echelons of the Cuban Government" and possible internal tensions within the Communist Party of Cuba. Other messages challenge the role of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, whom some users describe as subordinate to Raúl Castro's influence.

So far, neither the Cuban Presidency nor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided an official statement to clarify the scope or authenticity of the alleged contacts.

The Cuban representative to the UN remains the only voice from the government to address the topic. Soberón insists that it is purely "speculation."
