The arrest of a suspect in the murder of a 27-year-old man in Contramaestre has once again highlighted the rising violence in various regions of Cuba, amidst public demands for justice and enhanced security.

According to a post on the Facebook page “Héroes del Moncada,” associated with the Ministry of the Interior, the incident took place recently during a festive event at a recreational center in the Rosabal district of Contramaestre, Santiago de Cuba.

The report stated that a young man, known as José Luis Enamorado, lost his life due to a stabbing, while Marino García, aged 25, was critically injured and subsequently taken to the Orlando Pantoja Tamayo hospital.

The statement confirmed the capture of the alleged perpetrator, identified as Adam, who is now in the hands of the legal system for the appropriate judicial proceedings.

The news sparked numerous reactions on social media. Several users demanded severe punishment for all those involved. "All those implicated should face justice; what they did has devastated a family," one user wrote. Another added, "They should face the full weight of the law. We're talking about life sentences, not just a few years for those involved in this act of violence and murder."

Some comments even called for the death penalty. "Murders will continue unless the government implements capital punishment," another person opined.

There were also messages of sympathy and grief for the victim. “My condolences to his family,” expressed one user. Others recalled unsolved cases in the area and questioned the institutional response to past crimes.

Rising Violence Across the Nation

The Contramaestre case is part of a series of violent incidents reported recently. In Centro Habana, two men were killed in broad daylight on Águila Street, an event captured on video. The footage shared online includes voices saying, "He was just murdered," followed by, "They're beating the murderer. They just killed him. They killed the one who murdered."

In El Cobre, Santiago de Cuba, details emerged about the murder of Eduardo Ortiz, known as “Kañín.” According to reports, the attacker returned with a weapon after an argument and "stabbed him in the collarbone and side." The victim succumbed to his injuries afterward.

Additionally, in Santiago de Cuba, three men received life sentences for the murder of a motorcyclist, inflicting approximately 27 wounds to steal his vehicle.

In January, the body of a man was discovered in the bathroom pit of his home in the rural village of Sevilla, following several days of being missing. The case remains under investigation.

The Provincial Court of Santiago de Cuba also sentenced those responsible for the murder of a security guard during a robbery attempt in 2024 to 28 to 30 years in prison.

Despite the absence of updated public crime statistics, the recurrence of violent incidents in various areas has sparked fear and outrage among citizens expressing their concerns on social media.
