"Greetings to everyone! We remind you that the last days to apply for the MEXT Scholarships are here… Don’t miss the chance to travel to Japan and advance professionally!" the embassy announced.

The deadline for the application is Monday, February 9, 2026, which means interested individuals must act swiftly to submit their applications.

Opportunities for University Students

Japan is also offering scholarships to Cuban university students pursuing careers related to Japanese culture and language, including those studying Japanese as a second language at the Faculty of Foreign Languages (FLEX) at the University of Havana.

The age limit for this category is also 30 years old.

The Perks of MEXT Scholarships: Travel, Tuition, and Financial Support

Beyond academic prestige, these scholarships are a major draw for many Cubans as they represent a genuine opportunity for professional advancement outside the island, as well as the tangible possibility to travel to a nation renowned for its technological and cultural development.

The MEXT scholarships cover the duration of the program, which may last from October 2026 to March 2028, with no extensions available.

According to information provided by the Japanese Embassy in Colombia and reported by El Nuevo Herald, teachers can receive monthly support of up to 143,000 yen (approximately 910 dollars), in addition to covering tuition, admission exams, enrollment, and round-trip airfare.
