Due to the ongoing severe shortages in Cuba, the CIMEX corporation announced on Friday evening that the sale of fuel in Cuban pesos (CUP) and Diesel fuel in U.S. dollars (USD) to the public would be postponed "until conditions allow." This decision comes amid a profound crisis of fuel scarcity in the country.

Starting February 7th, a new system called Ticket will be implemented at service stations offering fuel in USD for B90 and B94 gasoline. This initiative aims to streamline operations and serve as many customers as possible. Customers can purchase up to 20 liters each time they register on the platform, and they will have 24 hours to use their slot once notified.

The official statement, released after a Round Table discussion on tackling the "acute fuel shortage" in Cuba, mentioned that unrestricted sales will gradually resume as fuel availability permits.

On January 29th, the Cuba-Petroleum Union (CUPET) assured that "fuel supplies to the country's service stations have not been halted."

As of February 7th, sales of fuel in CUP and Diesel in USD to the public will be suspended. Only gasoline B90 and B94 will be sold in USD, with a limit of 20 liters per transaction through the Ticket system.

Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, previewed this measure during a special Round Table discussion about the package of decisions made amid the energy crisis and the official call for conservation.

The reduction in fuel sales, according to the released explanation, is a direct response to the current supply situation: "Without sufficient fuel, we cannot maintain previous sales levels," stated the grandnephew of Fidel and Raúl Castro.
