The Mexican Consulate in Havana has firmly denied recent claims circulating on social media about a supposed lifting of visa requirements for Cuban nationals wishing to visit Mexico.

"Attention! There is false information spreading on social media regarding the alleged issuance of free or unrestricted Mexican visas for Cuban citizens. This is not true. There have been no changes to the visa requirements or procedures," the diplomatic mission clarified in an official statement shared on its X account (formerly known as Twitter).

The Consulate emphasized that the only reliable information regarding consular procedures can be found on official Mexican government platforms, such as the consulmex.sre.gob.mx/la-habana website, or on verified accounts like @ConsulMexLH, @SRE_mx, and @EmbamexCuba.

Mexican authorities have once again urged Cuban citizens to avoid being misled by posts or so-called agencies that falsely promise automatic visas, exemptions, or expedited processes in exchange for money.

"Don't be deceived," the Consulate stressed, reminding individuals that consular procedures cannot be conducted through intermediaries or unofficial websites.

In recent months, a surge of misinformation regarding visas and immigration processes has been spreading across social media and messaging groups, coinciding with a rise in Cuban migration to Mexico and the United States.

Officials have even identified fake profiles impersonating official accounts to offer "express visas" or fraudulent consular appointments, amidst the ongoing Cuban migration crisis.

As of now, Mexico continues to enforce its visa requirement for Cuban citizens, a policy reinstated in December 2021 due to the increase in irregular migration to its territory.

The visa must be processed in person at the Consulate in Havana, requiring a prior appointment and submission of documentation proving the purpose of travel, financial stability, and ties to Cuba.

The Mexican government has repeatedly expressed its dedication to maintaining safe and orderly channels for human mobility, while cautioning against the use of unverified information or sources lacking official validation.
