A cold front is expected to sweep into Cuba on the afternoon of Sunday, January 18, initially affecting the western region. This weather system could bring with it showers, rain, and isolated thunderstorms, primarily impacting the western and central parts of the island, with the possibility of some heavy rainfall.

The Weather Forecasting Center of INSMET has reported that, prior to the arrival of the front, an increase in moisture levels across various layers of the troposphere is anticipated. This will likely lead to cloudiness and precipitation events in those areas.

Following the passage of the front, INSMET predicts a return to winter-like conditions at the start of the coming week, although specific temperature values associated with this event have not yet been detailed.

Meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez noted, "Another cold front is currently moving through the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to reach western Cuba by tomorrow afternoon. Before it arrives, an increase in relative humidity across different levels of the troposphere is forecasted, resulting in cloudiness with showers, rain, and isolated thunderstorms in the west and central regions of the country."

After the front passes, winter conditions are expected to return at the beginning of the next week.

In their forecast for Saturday, January 17, released at 3:00 a.m., the Forecasting Center indicated that the day would feature cloudiness in the central and eastern regions, with a possibility of showers and rain in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the western region would experience partly cloudy skies with little rain.

For that day, maximum temperatures were projected to range from 25 to 28°C in the west and central areas, and up to 30°C in the east, with nighttime lows between 17 and 20°C.

Not only is Cuba experiencing winter conditions, but southern Florida also saw a chilly morning on Friday, with the coldest air to hit the region in almost four years.

Authorities issued a cold weather advisory for the interior of Broward and Miami-Dade counties until 9:00 a.m., as thermometers recorded minimum temperatures in the 40-degree Fahrenheit range, with wind chills dropping to the 30s in some areas.
