Nicolás Maduro's Son Calls for Unity Amid Crisis: "My Father's Plan Is Unwavering"

Saturday, January 10, 2026 by Alex Smith

Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of the recently detained Nicolás Maduro, has urged for unity within the ruling party, assuring that the administration is implementing "the plan" that his father allegedly approved before being captured by the United States.

During a political event, Maduro Guerra stated, "Everything happening now, everything we are doing as a government, was part of Nicolás Maduro's plan... We are following his instructions."

Maduro Guerra emphasized that his father "charted the course" and was "prepared for anything," citing three frameworks supposedly part of this roadmap: the Plan of the Nation, the Plan of the Seven Transformations, and the Negotiation Plan.

He quoted his father, saying, “If something happens to me, this is the path... Here is the Plan of the Nation. Here is the Plan of the Seven Transformations. Here is the Negotiation Plan,” attributing these to his father’s prior directives.

The chavista legislator added that "the five points" Maduro "approved in December" are the ones being "worked on today" and that the future "prosperity" of the country would be the result of this plan.

Maduro Guerra framed his unity appeal as a sign of power continuity following Maduro's capture, explicitly supporting Delcy Rodríguez, describing her as "our elder sister," leading the "interim presidency" alongside a "collective high-level political leadership team."

This statement came during a politically charged day following the opening of the National Assembly, where Maduro Guerra expressed "unconditional support" for Rodríguez, aligning with her pending parliamentary ratification after Maduro's capture on Saturday, January 3. He concluded with a direct message: "The nation is in good hands."

In this context, Maduro Guerra also defended his father against the U.S. legal system, arguing that international law "exists to curb empires" and drawing a political comparison: "If they are Monroe, we are Simón Bolívar."

International media have highlighted the emotional tone of his speech and the public support for Delcy Rodríguez as interim president, portraying it as an effort to strengthen the narrative of chavismo continuity after Maduro's capture.

Out of the 285 members in the Assembly, 256 are loyal to chavismo, ensuring the ruling party's complete control of the legislative body, even as Maduro faces charges of drug trafficking and terrorism in a federal court in New York.

Additionally, Maduro's son put forward Jorge Rodríguez Gómez for the presidency of the National Assembly, further solidifying chavismo's political grip on the Legislature.
