Dominican Republic's President, Luis Abinader, has voiced his stance on the unfolding situation in Venezuela, emphasizing that his administration is closely monitoring developments amid rising tensions following recent attacks and the deepening political crisis in the country.

Through a post on social media platform X, President Abinader reiterated that the Dominican government has never acknowledged the legitimacy of Nicolás Maduro as Venezuela's leader after the July 2024 elections, the results of which have been widely disputed by the international community.

"Our nation never recognized the legitimacy of Nicolás Maduro's proclamation as president following the July 2024 elections," the president stated emphatically.

In alignment with this stance, Abinader highlighted that the Dominican Republic spearheaded the Santo Domingo Declaration in August 2024—a regional initiative calling for respect for the electoral will expressed by the Venezuelan populace.

The Dominican leader also underscored the longstanding solidarity between Dominican and Venezuelan peoples, reaffirming his government’s readiness to assist in restoring democracy, peace, and national harmony in Venezuela.

"Today, we reaffirm our commitment to aid in the restoration of democracy, peace, and national harmony in Venezuela," he declared.

President Abinader concluded his message with a strong assertion regarding the Dominican Republic's foreign policy:

"The Dominican Republic will always stand with democracy. Anywhere, anytime, and against anyone."

These statements from Abinader come amid a regionally charged atmosphere, with international concerns over Venezuela's democratic backsliding, the rejection of the 2024 electoral outcomes, and increased diplomatic pressure on the regime of the now-imprisoned Maduro.
