The Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) in Cuba announced on Tuesday the labor and salary arrangements for the nation's upcoming public holidays.

An official statement from the government agency declared that work will be suspended on December 31, January 1, and January 2.

The MTSS emphasized that, in accordance with the "Labor Code" outlined in Law 116 of December 20, 2013, December 31 and January 2 are recognized as holidays, while January 1 is designated as a "national day of commemoration."

However, it was made clear that certain sectors will not halt operations. These include the sugar harvest and other urgent agricultural tasks, continuous production industries, and essential loading and unloading activities.

Furthermore, transportation services and their necessary technical support, hospitals and healthcare, pharmacies, fuel stations, funeral services, cemeteries, tourism centers, communication services, radio and television broadcasts, basic public services, and authorized fishing activities will also continue uninterrupted.

Restaurants, cafes, public entertainment venues, and food-related retail operations will remain open during hours set by national authorities. Non-state managed businesses providing these services will operate within approved hours, the ministry clarified.

The MTSS also noted that salaries will be paid as stipulated in Article 111 of the "Labor Code" under Law 116.

"Employees who are on paid annual leave, unpaid leave, social security subsidies, or salary guarantees as per the law will continue to receive the same treatment," the ministry specified.
