This Monday, China commenced live-fire military exercises in close proximity to Taiwan.

Dubbed "Mission Justice-2025," these drills involve the deployment of troops, aircraft, warships, and long-range artillery systems, as reported by EFE. The primary aim is to "deter" any "external forces" that might attempt to "interfere in the Taiwan issue."

The exercises are set to continue through Tuesday, spanning seven air and maritime zones near the island, utilizing live ammunition.

"This serves as a stern warning against the separatist forces advocating for 'Taiwan independence' and external interference. It is a legitimate and necessary action to protect China's sovereignty and national unity," stated Shi Yi, spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese Army.

In addition, the Chinese Coast Guard has initiated "comprehensive law enforcement" patrols in waters near Taiwan and around the Matsu and Wuqiu archipelagos, which are situated off the Chinese coast but under Taipei's control.

These recent maneuvers represent an escalation compared to similar past exercises, as they cover broader areas of the Strait and Taiwan's eastern coast.

"These drills primarily focus on maritime-air combat readiness patrols, comprehensive control, blockade of ports and key areas, and three-dimensional external deterrence," stated the Eastern Theater Command in a press release.

In response to China's operations, Taiwan's National Defense Ministry has also mobilized forces to "protect freedom and democracy" and safeguard Taiwanese sovereignty.

Taiwanese authorities reported detecting 89 military aircraft, 14 military vessels, and 14 Chinese Coast Guard ships operating around the island, alongside a fleet of four amphibious assault ships in the Western Pacific.

The drills occur amid heightened U.S. military support for Taipei and recent visits by high-profile Japanese politicians to Taiwan.
