The Cuban-American chess player, Leinier Domínguez, delivered an impressive performance by remaining undefeated at the Rapid Chess World Championship, which concluded on December 28 in Doha, Qatar.

Domínguez secured the fifth position with six victories and seven draws, following the tiebreak system, in a tournament largely dominated by Norwegian chess prodigy Magnus Carlsen.

According to the independent Cuban outlet Swing Completo, this achievement earned the chess player from Güines a prize of 23,000 euros.

Trailing Carlsen were competitors Vladislav Artemiev, Arjun Erigaisi, and Hans Hoke Niemann.

The Cuban Grandmaster's victories were over Iceland's Vignir Vatnar Stefansson (Elo 2463), Kazakhstan's Rinat Jumabayev (2543), India's Sandipan Chanda (2553), Venezuela's Eduardo Iturrizaga (2605), Azerbaijan's Rauf Mamedov (2610), and Turkey's Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus (2446).

He also drew against Russia's Savva Vetokhin (2486), Iran's M. Amin Tabatabaei (2579), India's Aravindh Chithambaram (2590), and Russian players Nikita Petrov (2543), Vladislav Artemiev (2727), and Aleksandr Shimanov (2554), as well as Argentine prodigy Faustino Oro (2489).

Entering the tournament with a rapid Elo rating of 2703, Leinier gained 2.5 points, elevating him to the 15th position in the global rankings for this chess format.
