A recent incident of vandalism against an interprovincial bus has raised alarms about road safety in Cuba, following an attack on a bus traveling between Las Tunas and Bayamo this past Wednesday.

The passenger bus, operated by the small business PEDROCARR S.R.L., was pelted with stones on the Vado del Yeso stretch of road. The incident was reported by the Transportación Habana TH Facebook group.

Fortunately, there were no injuries to passengers or staff, but the bus did suffer material damage, causing concern among those who rely on this transportation service.

This marks the second such attack on a vehicle from the same private company in under a week. Four days earlier, another PEDROCARR S.R.L. bus, running the route from Santiago de Cuba to Havana, was stoned under similar circumstances on the road near Contramaestre in Santiago de Cuba province.

Currently, there have been no reports of arrests or specific measures to prevent further incidents.

Such repeated acts of vandalism highlight the increasingly precarious state of road safety across the nation. Crime and vandalism pose direct threats to the passengers, drivers, and workers of interprovincial transportation services.

In a country already struggling with limited mobility options and overwhelmed state services, each attack not only damages a vehicle but also further restricts the already sparse transportation capacity between provinces.

Meanwhile, travelers continue to journey with the fear that a routine road trip could unexpectedly turn dangerous—not due to technical failures, but because of the worsening violence on the nation's roads.

Founded in April 2022 and based in Las Tunas, PEDROCARR S.R.L. has become a key player among small businesses supporting passenger transport nationwide, often filling in gaps left by the Empresa de Ómnibus Nacionales when fuel is available.

With services that include interprovincial routes, shared rides, and support for state entities, these attacks have repercussions that extend beyond the private sector.
