Cuban Influencer Reveals What Bothers Her About Fellow Cubans

Tuesday, November 25, 2025 by Edward Lopez

The Cuban content creator Adita Rodríguez (@adita__rdgz) sparked a lively discussion online with a candid video detailing aspects of Cuban behavior that she finds unappealing.

Adita pointed out three behaviors that she believes are particularly challenging to endure. First on her list was the way Cubans greet each other. Even after years apart, their initial reaction often involves making unsolicited comments about your appearance.

"'You're so skinny!' or 'You've gained weight!', 'You look old!'... Who asked for your opinion? You never know the personal battles someone might be facing," the young influencer remarked.

Secondly, she criticized the tendency to "scan" others, focusing intently on clothing and style choices. This is a behavior she noticed is less prevalent in other cultures since living outside of Cuba.

Lastly, she highlighted the issue of machismo in Cuban society. "It's strange to me because women are independent, hardworking, and contribute at home, yet going out is frowned upon. Meanwhile, men are praised," she observed.

What other Cuban behaviors do you think should be added to this list of areas for improvement?

Insights on Cuban Social Dynamics

Why do Cubans often comment on physical appearance during greetings?

This habit may stem from cultural norms where physical appearance is a frequent topic of conversation. However, it can unintentionally come across as judgmental or intrusive.

Is the "scanning" behavior common in other cultures?

While some cultures may also pay attention to clothing and style, the intense scrutiny described by Adita appears to be more characteristic of Cuban social interactions.

How does machismo manifest in Cuban society?

Machismo in Cuba often results in gender roles where men's actions are celebrated, while women's independence and social activities are met with criticism.
