A traveler headed to Panama was apprehended at Havana's José Martí International Airport after being discovered with cannabis, hashish, and drug-related paraphernalia.

This incident was confirmed on Monday by Wiliam Pérez González, the first deputy chief of the General Customs of the Republic (AGR), via his official account on X.

The official disclosed that the passenger was carrying cannabis buds, hashish-infused products, paraphernalia related to drug use, and marijuana-themed propaganda.

During questioning, the individual admitted to being a user, prompting authorities to enforce the measures stipulated under Cuban law.

Customs reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, possession, or promotion, emphasizing that such acts are considered serious offenses in Cuba.

As of now, the identity of the passenger and the details of the penalties imposed remain undisclosed.

Incidents of this nature have been occurring with increasing frequency. In September, customs officials intercepted a traveler attempting to leave the country with a large sum of undeclared foreign currency, an act suspected to be a potential money-laundering operation.

Shortly thereafter, another operation led to the seizure of seven thousand cigars at Havana airport, part of an effort to curb the smuggling of high-value goods.

Later, inspectors found drugs concealed inside a toothpaste tube sent via a postal package, highlighting the varied methods employed to smuggle illegal substances in and out of the country.

According to Customs, the frequency of such discoveries has significantly increased in recent months.
