Residents of Luyanó, in the Diez de Octubre municipality, are in shock following the tragic death of a young man who succumbed to a stab wound during an argument that started over a trivial matter.

The victim, 24-year-old Carlexi, passed away early Tuesday morning after arriving in critical condition at La Benéfica hospital.

This incident, which has been widely shared on social media, has reignited concerns among Cubans about the escalating violence in the country.

Carlexi, who resided in the Jesús María neighborhood of Old Havana—on Cárdenas Street, between Misión and Arsenal, across from the Hotel Alcázar—was described as a peaceful, well-liked, and respected individual in his community.

His life had been marked by loss: his mother died last year, and although he had two sisters, one in the United States and another in Cuba, family ties were distant.

Neighbors assert that his gentle nature starkly contrasted with the increasing insecurity of his surroundings.

A Trivial Dispute with Tragic Consequences

According to testimonies shared online, the young man had attended a birthday party in Luyanó. Upon leaving, he got into an altercation with an individual known as "el Capiro," who—witnesses say—was neither part of the gathering nor acquainted with the victim.

The argument reportedly began over something as minor as a chair at a nearby café. Yet, the lack of control, hostile environment, and rising street violence led to a deadly outcome.

Within minutes, Carlexi suffered a stab wound to the heart. He was rushed to La Benéfica Hospital, but medical efforts could not save him.

As of now, there has been no information on whether the alleged attacker has been apprehended, and the community urgently demands justice and clarity.

A Tragic Symbol of Social Decay

Carlexi's murder is not an isolated incident. It adds to a worrying series of violent events affecting neighborhoods and cities across the country, where brawls, robberies, and knife attacks are becoming more frequent.

As crime rates rise, citizens increasingly feel that institutions, rather than providing protection, are either absent or ineffective.

The outrage stems not just from the grief over a young life lost, but from the realization that the State has failed to ensure basic safety and social order.

The residents of Jesús María, and now Luyanó, mourn not only the loss of a young man described by all as "a good kid, quiet and hardworking," but also express fear about a social environment that has become unpredictable, impoverished, and lacking institutional control.

Carlexi's death is thus a reflection of a Cuba where violence is no longer exceptional but increasingly part of everyday life.
