On Thursday, the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, located in Matanzas, successfully reconnected to the National Electric System (SEN) with an initial output of 44 megawatts (MW) following technical adjustments to its operational setup.

The plant verified this development through their official Facebook page, noting that the synchronization was achieved at 2:59 PM after the scheduled reconfiguration was completed.

As the largest thermoelectric facility in Cuba, it had previously disconnected from the SEN last Saturday at 2:30 AM for light maintenance, according to official reports.

Authorities indicated that the maintenance was expected to last "approximately four days." Rubén Campos Olmo, the plant's general manager, mentioned that over 500 corrective measures were to be implemented.

Although the plant was initially supposed to reconnect on Wednesday, delays pushed the synchronization to Thursday, raising concerns about the duration of this connection.

While the plant is currently producing 44 MW, the Cuban regime recently vowed to double its output from 120 to 240 MW. However, this figure merely represents a return to the normal generation capacity the plant should maintain under standard conditions.

The Antonio Guiteras power station is slated for a comprehensive maintenance overhaul by the end of 2025, a crucial initiative aimed at enhancing its efficiency and boosting its generation capacity.
