Following weeks of uncertainty, public scrutiny, social media campaigns, and media attacks, Yoni, the well-known dog from Cauto, is alive and well.

The confirmation came from the organization Animal Welfare Cuba (BAC-Habana) through their social media channels, where they shared a video and testimonials that complete the story of the dog that touched the hearts of many Cubans during evacuations caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The news was confirmed after a WhatsApp exchange between BAC and Yeinier's wife—the first person to provide evidence of Yoni's survival—and later with Yeinier himself.

Through their accounts, the missing pieces of Yoni's story were pieced together: when his owner was evacuated, Yoni was left alone by the Cauto River.

He was later picked up by the owner's brother, who also had to be evacuated, leaving Yoni alone once again.

Despite these challenges, Yoni persevered, survived, and reunited with his family. He is now being cared for, fed, and cherished.

"Yoni is a beloved community dog in his area, with identified guardians," stated BAC in their update. Yoni appeared shy on camera, accompanied by a child named Leonardo, who identified himself as the dog's owner.

"We got the proof of life that was sought from the beginning, and that was the most important thing. We are glad this story ends well and that Yoni will never be left alone again," BAC Habana concluded.
