Surprise Spring Emerges in Holguín After Hurricane Melissa

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, the province of Holguín experienced more than just heavy rains and strong winds. A peculiar natural phenomenon has captured the attention of locals: a spring emerging from within a shelter on La Loma de la Cruz.

This unusual occurrence was recorded on video and shared by the Instagram account Holguín in Photos, where viewers can see water flowing from a hole in one of the shelter's walls, which had been sealed shut.

Resourceful residents have adapted to the situation by constructing a small channel to guide the water to the street, where they collect it in buckets and containers.

Infrastructure Challenges Amid Abundant Water

Despite the deluge brought by Melissa and the fact that the province's reservoirs are full, a significant portion of the population remains without water in their homes. This is due to power outages that prevent the operation of pumps.

This situation highlights one of the many contradictions in Cuba's water management system. Although the reservoirs are brimming after the cyclone, families still rely on an unreliable electrical service to access water.
