This week, residents of Cuba are expected to experience a touch of winter with the arrival of a cold front starting Monday morning. While it may not be cold enough to bring out the winter coats, it will certainly break the heat, especially in the western part of the island.
Meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez announced on Facebook this Sunday that the cold front will lead to increased cloudiness, scattered showers, and isolated rainfall, as well as a noticeable drop in temperatures.
According to Ruisánchez, the weather system will move towards central and eastern Cuba by Tuesday, where it might stall and cause more persistent rainfall in several regions.
He further explained that the weather shift will be accompanied by north winds ranging from 20 to 35 km/h, with stronger gusts along the northern coast. This is expected to result in rough seas and water accumulation in low-lying areas, particularly along the western coast.
The forecasted high temperatures will range between 22 and 25 degrees Celsius in the west and center, and up to 28 degrees in the east. Meanwhile, nighttime lows are anticipated to drop between 15 and 18 degrees in interior areas.
The coldest night is predicted to be Wednesday, as cloud cover diminishes and the cold air intensifies its presence.
The meteorologist advises the public to take precautions against strong winds and rough seas and to stay updated with the latest reports from the Institute of Meteorology of Cuba (Insmet).
This cold front marks the first significant arrival of cooler air in November, providing a respite from the heat and ushering in the typical early winter atmosphere in Cuba.
This initial cold front of the fall season also brought a significant temperature drop to South Florida starting this weekend.
The system is projected to move through the eastern United States, reaching the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metropolitan area between Sunday and Monday. This will cause nighttime temperatures to fall to around 16 degrees Celsius.
However, the most significant change is expected on Tuesday morning, with temperatures potentially dipping to about 10 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest point of the season.
