Cuban Content Creator's Unusual Request: "Leave Me Here"

Thursday, November 6, 2025 by Joseph Morales

Cuban content creator Marcos Pérez (@marcosperezredd), who currently resides in the United States, stirred up a conversation online after posting a TikTok video. In the clip, which combines seriousness with dark humor, Pérez expresses his wish not to be returned to Cuba in the event of his death.

Pérez addresses a common practice among many Cuban families of transporting the bodies of their loved ones back to the island. However, his stance is clear and unwavering.

"If I die in the United States, I warn my family and friends not to repatriate my body. Leave me here, cremate me, and scatter my ashes in New York or on a beach in Miami, but I'm not going back to Cuba," he stated.

"What if my soul doesn't find redemption and I don't go to heaven or hell? What if I have to wander like a ghost through Cuba, seeing posters of the PCC and Fidel Castro? No way! I feel sorry for my folks, but not even in death do I want to go back to Cuba," Pérez added.

His words, laced with dark humor, resonate with many Cubans who have emigrated and have no interest in returning to their homeland under any circumstances.

The video has garnered over 22,000 views and hundreds of comments from fellow Cubans who share his sentiment: "You might be joking, but I feel the same way."
